Museum is settled in the premises of the Strakonice castle that belongs to the oldest and the largest in Bohemia. It was found by the noble family of Bavor of Strakonice at the confluence of the Otava and the Volyňka rivers in the 1st quarter of the 13th century. Museum expositions are located in the castle palace in the southern part of the castle. The history of the region from the prehistory through the Middle Ages to the second half of the 20th century is presented in eleven halls. Outstanding expositions include bagpipes and bagpipers in Bohemia, motorcycles of the legendary CZ brand, the noble family of Rožmberk and Maltese Order in the Strakonice region. Museum offers three guided tours with atractions such as a paper model of the castle, castle tower Rumpál with a magnificent view, Capitular Hall with Cloister or castle Black Kitchen. Museum also operates a Castle Gallery and unique technical monument – water mill in Hoslovice.
