The Puppet Museum in Chrudim opened on July 2nd, 1972. The museum is built around the private collection of Jan Malik (1904-1980), a historian, a teacher, a collector, and a tireless organizer of puppetry life, both in practice and theory. He also helped orchestrate the donation of puppets from various national centers of UNIMA, an international puppetry organization. During the Museum's existence, the collection has been constantly updated and has grown considerably. Today, the Museum has around 50,000 items, including more than 8,500 puppets from around the world, as well as set designs and models, scenery, works of art with a puppet theme, posters and programs, photographs, audio and video recordings, printed matter, manuscripts, other archival materials, etc. There is also a professional library.
